Breaking: Nagaland Govt Triumphantly Enforces ILP in Chumoukedima, Niuland, and Dimapur – Northeast News
KOHIMA: The Nagaland government has rolled out the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the districts of Chumoukedima, Niuland, and Dimapur to tackle the issue of illegal immigration. This announcement was made by the state’s Tourism and Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, who also functions as the government spokesperson.
The decision follows the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF)’s recent demand for ILP enforcement in these districts within a 14-day deadline. The minister outlined that residents of Dimapur would be categorized into three groups, with ILP requirements differing among them.
Individuals in Dimapur who settled prior to December 1, 1963, will fall under Category I, and no ILP will be required for them. They will also be eligible for a smart card facility along with the option to obtain a Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) and Domicile Certificate. Those who settled between December 1, 1963, and November 21, 1979, will be in Category II, exempt from ILP and also eligible for a PRC and the option for a Domicile Certificate.
Category III will include individuals who settled on and after November 22, 1979, and will be required to obtain an ILP. The minister emphasized that the state government is committed to enhancing the digital system for ILP issuance to streamline the process.
Additionally, special provisions will be made for specific groups such as students, teachers, technical personnel, and business investors, who will be granted ILPs that last from two to five years.
This strategic move is seen as a significant step in boosting regulatory oversight and fortifying legal residency frameworks in Nagaland’s key districts.
