Apple has reintroduced a dedicated camera control button in its new iPhone 16 series, a move that could influence other smartphone manufacturers to follow suit. This button, reminiscent of traditional camera shutters, is integrated into the phone’s frame and features a high-precision force sensor providing haptic feedback similar to DSLRs. It also includes a capacitive touch sensor for various camera functions, such as opening the camera app, taking photos, and starting or stopping video recording. All four iPhone 16 models come equipped with this feature.
Nubia’s president announced on Weibo that the upcoming Nubia Z70 Ultra will feature a “more realistic” camera button supporting half-press for focusing and full press for capturing images. Reports indicate that OPPO is also set to incorporate a similar button in its Find X8 series. While details are scant, leaks suggest their "Quick Button" could bring advanced photo capture capabilities, possibly including swipe gestures for zooming. The OPPO Find X8 Pro is rumored to offer a 10x telephoto camera, potentially making it the second smartphone to feature such a capability after Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Historically, brands like Nokia, HTC, and Sony Ericsson have included shutter buttons in their devices across various operating systems. Sony continues this trend with its Xperia 1 VI, which boasts a two-stage camera shutter button.
