Unyielding Unity: NCP Confirms No Room for ‘Friendly’ Fights Among Mahayuti Allies
Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President, dismissed the notion of “friendly fights” among Mahayuti partners in the upcoming State Assembly elections. Emphasizing unity, he stated that the NCP, BJP, and Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, would contest all 288 seats together, prioritizing candidates’ winnability. This comes after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held private discussions with allies in Mumbai, where state BJP leaders had proposed friendly contests on 25 seats amid seat-sharing disputes.
Pawar clarified that the NCP isn’t seeking the Chief Minister’s post or a set number of seats, aiming instead for electoral victory. He reassured that every ally would receive a fair share of seats, with detailed discussions ongoing. Three spokespersons will be appointed by each ruling partner to articulate their positions ahead of the elections.
Addressing the Maratha reservation issue, Pawar expressed strong support for it, stressing that it should not affect the OBC quota. He underlined that their primary focus remains on development and that the altered political landscape post-Lok Sabha elections would work in their favor. The leader added that the state’s voters would no longer fall for “baseless narratives” propagated by the opposition.
