By TC News Desk
Agartala, 10th September 2024: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha declared on Tuesday that the government will enforce strict measures against any attacks on journalists and prohibited the forced collection of subscriptions for Puja celebrations.
Dr. Saha emphasized that the culture of targeting journalists has evolved over the past 35 years and underscored the necessity for change. "Journalists work diligently and I share a personal connection with them. We are committed to ensuring their safety and have made it easier for them to seek justice. Unlike the past, we will not overlook these incidents," he stated. Dr. Saha has directed the immediate arrest of anyone involved in such attacks, aiming to foster a peaceful environment.
On the issue of forced subscriptions for Puja, Dr. Saha revealed, "There will be zero tolerance for forced collection of Puja subscriptions. During a visit to Unakoti district, I discovered instances in Teliamura, Khowai District, where public vehicles were being stopped for collecting subscriptions. I immediately directed the Superintendent of Police to take swift action. Our goal is to enforce strict measures against all involved parties, regardless of their identity."
This firm stance by Prof. Dr. Manik Saha signals a significant shift toward protecting journalists and maintaining public order during festive times.
