Hyderabad, September 1, 2026 — Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on X that the University of London (UK) and Northeastern University (Boston) are set to establish offshore campuses in Hyderabad, a move he described as a major step toward transforming the city into a global knowledge hub. The announcement said the tie-ups will include academic programmes, certification courses and collaborative research aimed at expanding higher-education options locally.
Reddy said Harvard University and some of its constituent schools have also expressed keen interest in offering select programmes and courses in Telangana, adding that these discussions could lead to centres of excellence and professional upskilling opportunities. He framed the developments as part of a broader strategy to provide education, certification and shared research that serve students and working professionals alike.
“I wish to share my sense of pride and happiness with the people of Telangana, especially youth, that our vision to create a Global Knowledge Hub in Hyderabad has been endorsed, supported and will be partnered with the world’s greatest educational institutions,” the Chief Minister tweeted. He reiterated that his key priorities for youth are skills, sports and education to prepare them for global challenges.
Reddy said recent meetings with top British institutions — including Oxford, Cambridge, SOAS, Imperial College, London Business School and the London School of Economics — yielded positive outcomes. He also reported productive talks with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, several Ivy League schools and other American universities, which he said could allow students to access programmes from these institutions in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister returned from the UK on August 24, 2026, after the Centre denied him permission to visit the United States; a delegation that accompanied him proceeded with visits to the US. Reddy said the trips were intended to secure collaborations with universities and sports academies and to invite investment ahead of the Invest Telangana Summit, scheduled in Hyderabad for December 7–9, 2026. — IANS
