Sikkim’s Major Bikash Rai Awarded Gallantry Sena Medal — Heroic Valor
Major Bikash Rai, a serving officer of the Assam Rifles from Yangang in Sikkim and currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh, was awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) on Independence Day 2026 (August 15, 2026) for leading a successful counter‑terrorist operation that displayed “courage and exemplary leadership,” a press release said.
Acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists, Maj. Rai promptly led a small interception team. Demonstrating tactical skill and bravery, the team neutralised one terrorist and apprehended another, recovering arms and ammunition during the operation.
The release said the Sena Medal (Gallantry) was conferred in recognition of his gallant action and unwavering devotion to duty. Maj. Rai had earlier received a Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card on Republic Day 2026 (January 26, 2026).
His actions, the statement added, have brought pride to Yangang, the State of Sikkim and the nation, and serve as an example of professionalism and dedicated service.
Ahead of Independence Day 2026, President Droupadi Murmu approved 78 gallantry awards, including 13 posthumous honours, for personnel of the Defence Forces and Central Armed Police Forces.
