Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Praises Inspiring Women’s Empowerment at Vibrant Teej Utsav Celebration
At the Samuhik State-level Teej Utsav-2024 held at Saramsa Garden, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang praised the achievements of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party and underscored the pivotal role of women in the state’s development.
The festival, which officially kicked off today after beginning on September 6, drew a vibrant crowd from various communities. In his address, Chief Minister Tamang recounted key milestones of the SKM party since it assumed power on May 27, 2019. He highlighted the immense support and blessings from Sikkimese people that enabled the party to secure a second term. He also candidly discussed the significant challenges faced over the past five years, particularly the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted government plans and halted progress in 2020.
Despite the setbacks, Tamang praised the resilience of the Sikkimese people, noting their strength in navigating through the pandemic’s trials. He emphasized that the SKM government remained steadfast in its commitment to serving the people, even during the pandemic’s second wave in 2021.
The Chief Minister focused on the government’s initiatives aimed at women’s welfare, stating that every scheme introduced by the SKM has been designed to benefit mothers and sisters in Sikkim. “Our belief is that respecting women is integral to fostering overall development,” he said, emphasizing the central role of women empowerment in the government’s agenda.
Tamang highlighted that the Teej Utsav-2024 reflects SKM’s philosophy of unity and inclusivity, with the festival’s timing adjusted to honor the fasting traditions of women. He made it clear that the celebration is a tribute to all women, not just Hindu women. He contrasted this approach with the previous administration’s divisive tactics, reaffirming SKM’s commitment to unity and collective progress.
Tamang expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of Sikkimese women, recognizing their crucial roles as nurturers, leaders, and innovators. He reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an environment where every woman can thrive, celebrating their enduring contributions to society and ensuring their continued empowerment.
