Urgent Action: Manipur Police Unleashes Advanced Anti-Drone System to Combat Escalating Militant Attacks
In response to escalating drone attacks by Kuki militants since September 1, Manipur Police have deployed an advanced Anti-Drone System to neutralize threats posed by rogue drones. This move aims to strengthen the state’s defense against the sophisticated assaults which have caused casualties and unrest in various areas.
Addressing the spike in violence, IGP (Intelligence) Kabib K confirmed that swift measures are being taken to counter attacks. He highlighted that the militants have been targeting fringe areas with advanced weaponry, including drones and long-range rockets.
Earlier today, suspected Kuki militants attacked Nungchappi village in Jiribam District, resulting in the tragic death of 63-year-old Yurembam Kulendra Singha. Further violence in Rasidpur village led to the death of 41-year-old Baspatimayum Lakhi Kumar Sharma. The police, under heavy gunfire, managed to regain control of the situation following these attacks.
A previous day’s assault involved long-range rockets targeting Moirang Khoiru Leikai, killing 78-year-old RK Rabei and injuring six others. These incidents drew a significant crowd of village volunteers and locals, prompting security forces to intervene and restore order. Military helicopters were deployed for aerial surveillance, and senior officers oversaw operations to prevent further violence.
Additionally, on September 6, a mob attempted to loot arms from the 7th MR at Khabeisoi and the 2nd MR in Imphal. Combined security forces dispersed the crowd with tear gas and warning shots, causing damage to miscreants’ vehicles. Two police personnel were injured in the ensuing gunfire.
Kabib K emphasized comprehensive measures to maintain security, including deploying anti-drone systems, military surveillance, and additional forces in vulnerable areas. A social media monitoring cell has also been established to track individuals inciting violence, and combing operations are underway in suspected militant hideouts.
Earlier today, successful operations in the Loiching Range and the Bishnupur-Kangpokpi border led to the recovery of arms and ammunition believed to be used by militants.
