Indian Women Shine at U20 World Wrestling Championships
Pontevedra, Spain – Indian women wrestlers secured an impressive second-place finish at the U20 World Wrestling Championships, winning a total of five medals: one gold, one silver, and three bronze, all in the freestyle category.
Highlighting the Indian contingent’s performance, Jyoti Berwal clinched the gold medal in the 76 kg weight class. In the 62 kg category, Nitika earned a silver medal after a hard-fought final, where she was bested by Ukraine’s Iryna Bondar with a score of 1-4.
In the 57 kg category, Neha emerged victorious in the bronze medal match, defeating Gerda Terek of Hungary with a close 10-8 margin. Additionally, Komal in the 59 kg category and Shrishti in the 68 kg category added to India’s medal haul by each securing a bronze.
With the women’s freestyle competitions concluding yesterday, attention now turns to the men’s freestyle events, which commence today. Two Indian wrestlers will compete in bronze medal matches, hopeful of adding to the country’s success at the championships.
