Dibrugarh Employees’ Association Files Urgent Memo to Assam Minister
A delegation of the All Assam District Administration Employees’ Association, Dibrugarh District Committee, on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Assam’s Guardian Minister for Dibrugarh, Sushanta Borgohain, seeking improved service benefits for employees working within the newly formed Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation area. The association requested the introduction of a Metropolitan Allowance and an increase in House Rent Allowance (HRA) to 10 percent, arguing these changes are necessary following the city’s elevation and administrative reclassification.
The memorandum was handed over during the minister’s first official visit to Dibrugarh district. District Committee President Ritumoni Das and General Secretary Shaktidhar Gathiri formally welcomed Borgohain by presenting a traditional Assamese Cheleng Chador. The delegation was led by Ranjan Raidangia, President of the All Assam District Administration Employees’ Association and Adviser to the Dibrugarh District Committee, accompanied by other district office-bearers.
In their petition, the association stressed that employees serving in offices located within the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation should receive allowances commensurate with the city’s upgraded status. The Metropolitan Allowance demand aims to recognize higher living and commuting costs in the municipal limits, while the proposed HRA hike to 10 percent is intended to help staff manage rising rental expenses after Dibrugarh’s designation as Assam’s second capital.
The submission underscores growing expectations among local government staff for compensation adjustments tied to the district’s changing administrative profile. The association has urged the state government to consider the memorandum promptly to align employee benefits with the city’s new responsibilities and cost structures. The minister’s response to the requests was not detailed in the memorandum.
