Mizoram Road Tragedy: Speeding Car Slams Parked Truck, 3 Dead
Three people were killed and two others injured when a speeding car crashed into a stationary truck in Kolasib town, Mizoram, in the early hours of July 2, police said. The collision occurred at around 2 a.m. on National Highway-306, the main route linking Mizoram with Assam’s Silchar, as the Assam-registered vehicle was heading toward Aizawl.
According to police, the car struck the parked truck with such force that the truck was pushed more than 50 metres from the point of impact. Emergency responders described the passenger vehicle as badly mangled on arrival, with several occupants trapped inside.
Police and volunteers from the Young Mizo Association (YMA) launched an immediate rescue operation. Two people trapped in the car were extricated alive and taken for treatment, while the bodies of the three others were recovered from the wreckage. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
Traffic on NH-306 was disrupted following the crash as rescue teams and police worked at the scene. Law enforcement officials said an inquiry is under way to determine the precise cause of the accident and to confirm whether speed or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
