Tinsukia on High Alert After ULFA(I) Arrests — Security Tightened
Law enforcement in Assam’s Tinsukia district has significantly heightened security after the arrest of two heavily armed operatives of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom–Independent (ULFA‑I), following intelligence that a plot to carry out indiscriminate attacks in urban areas had been foiled. The district administration has deployed additional paramilitary units and state police to vulnerable locations and set up round‑the‑clock vehicle checkpoints at major transit junctions to screen traffic on key entry and exit routes.
Security forces are conducting meticulous searches and have stepped up surveillance at critical infrastructure, crowded marketplaces and transport hubs, including railway stations and bus terminals, to deter any renewed threats. Patrols and monitoring have been intensified across the district to maintain a visible security presence and reassure the public.
Border patrolling along sensitive inter‑state stretches with Arunachal Pradesh has also been reinforced to block potential infiltration routes allegedly used by rebel factions moving from cross‑border safe havens. Senior police officials said comprehensive combing operations are underway in peripheral and forested areas — systematic searches intended to locate and neutralise any sleeper cells or logistical collaborators linked to the arrested cadres.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately, while emphasising that the situation is under control. Travelers and local businesses may encounter enhanced checks and visible security deployments as operations continue.
