Meghalaya Landslide: Shillong–Dawki Highway Closed, Connectivity Severed
A major landslide on the Shillong–Dawki Road in Meghalaya has completely severed road connectivity beyond Laitlyngkot village, prompting district authorities to suspend all public and vehicular movement on the affected stretch until further notice. The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district said the slide occurred at Chainage 25+200 on the Shillong–Dawki route, cutting the road ahead of main Laitlyngkot village.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has informed the district administration that the damage is extensive and repair and restoration work is expected to take a few days. In view of public safety and ongoing restoration efforts, the district administration has ordered the immediate closure of the Shillong–Dawki Road from Laitlyngkot village onwards.
Authorities have advised commuters and travellers to avoid journeys on the Shillong–Dawki Road beyond Laitlyngkot during the closure and to follow official advisories for updates. Emergency and restoration teams are coordinating the response, and the administration said restrictions will remain in force until the road is declared safe for travel.
