Major PM-KISAN Relief: 18.6 Lakh Assam Farmers to Receive Rs 372 Crore
On June 20, 2026, the central government released the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for Assam, transferring ₹372 crore by direct benefit transfer (DBT) to about 18.60 lakh farmers in the state. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he virtually joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the launch of several development initiatives during which the PM-KISAN payment was released.
Sharing the update on social media, CM Sarma wrote he was “Honoured to have virtually joined Adarniya Narendra Modi ji” and added that the latest instalment will benefit 18.60 lakh farmers in Assam with ₹372 crore. The figure 18.60 lakh equals 1.86 million farmers.
PM-KISAN provides income support to eligible farmer families across India to help meet farm input costs and household expenses. Under the scheme, the Centre transfers fixed sums directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the DBT system, aiming to reduce delays and leakage.
Officials said the latest release is timed to give farmers timely cash support ahead of the upcoming sowing season. The transfer is part of the government’s ongoing push to strengthen rural livelihoods and support the agricultural community through direct transfers.
