India will host the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting on June 22–23, 2026, under its chairship, bringing together national security advisers and heads of delegation from BRICS member states to discuss emerging global security threats and deepen strategic cooperation. The two-day meeting in New Delhi will be chaired by India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a press release dated June 20, 2026.
Delegates are set to exchange views on what the MEA described as “non-traditional security challenges,” with discussions focused on the fast-changing security landscape and the growing impact of emerging technologies on national and international security. Officials will address concerns including cybersecurity, digital vulnerabilities and risks posed by artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.
The National Security Advisers will also review the outcomes of recently concluded BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter‑Terrorism and on Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies. The MEA said the review is intended to shape future cooperative measures to tackle transnational threats and strengthen collective security mechanisms across the grouping.
The meeting underscores India’s role in steering BRICS discussions beyond the economic agenda to include governance, security cooperation and technological challenges that affect member nations. New Delhi has been pushing for broader engagement on strategic and security-related issues within the forum.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who also serves as Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and acts as China’s national security adviser, is scheduled to attend the New Delhi meeting on June 22–23, 2026 at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval. The visit will be Wang’s first to India since August 2025 and comes after he did not attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting hosted by India in May 2026 due to a scheduling conflict with a visit by US President Donald Trump to Beijing.
Observers say Wang’s participation will be closely watched as India and China seek to maintain dialogue on bilateral and regional issues while engaging within the BRICS framework.
