NEET Mix-up: Nagpur Aspirant Assigned Abu Dhabi Centre — NTA Assures
An 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Nagpur discovered to his shock that his examination centre had been listed as Abu Dhabi Indian School in the UAE when he downloaded his admit card on June 14, despite having selected centres within Maharashtra and not opting for any overseas location. The student, identified as Abdullah Mohammad Talib, does not hold a passport; the listed centre is nearly 2,500 km from his home.
According to the family, they immediately contacted the National Testing Agency (NTA) helpline after noticing the error. Officials reportedly asked them to send an email and said a revised admit card would be issued, but with only two days remaining before the examination the correction had not yet appeared, leaving the student anxious and unsure whether to sit for the test.
Abdullah’s father, Mohammad Talib, told reporters the overseas allotment alarmed the family and prompted them to explore emergency options-such as arranging travel documents and flight tickets-if the centre was not changed. He said his son was deeply distressed and had briefly considered skipping the exam.
Responding to media queries, the NTA said, “The grievance is being addressed and the candidate will be allocated a centre in Nagpur, after due verification, in the next few hours.” The agency’s statement indicates it is looking into the complaint and plans to reassign a local centre following verification.
The incident follows the cancellation of the previous NEET examination, after which the NTA contacted registered candidates and parents to confirm whether they wanted to retain existing centres or choose new ones. The agency also requested bank details to process refunds of the ₹2,500 exam fee and said no additional charge was levied for the rescheduled test.
Meanwhile, several parents have reported broader discrepancies in the allotment of revised examination centres: while many retained their original locations within Nagpur city limits, others say they were assigned centres in distant districts or locations far from their preferred choices. The episode has renewed concerns about centre allotment accuracy and administrative preparedness ahead of the rescheduled NEET.
