GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Inaugurates New Secretariat in Dibrugarh
Guwahati: On Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the new Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, aimed at enhancing governance accessibility for nine surrounding districts.
During the inauguration, CM Sarma emphasized that the new secretariat symbolizes the government’s commitment to bringing decision-making processes closer to the people. "This Secretariat is not just a building but illustrates our sustained efforts to bring governance closer to the people," he stated.
Highlighting the administration’s focus over the last three years, Sarma pointed out that efforts have been concentrated on empowering districts as the core of governance, allowing district and sub-district machinery to make most decisions independently.
The initiative is set to benefit residents of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Charaideo, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji, who will now have enhanced access to administrative services without the need to travel to Guwahati.
In a notable move, CM Sarma announced his plan to spend four days each month in Dibrugarh to address issues specific to Upper Assam. He stated that the new office aims to bridge the administrative gap between Dibrugarh and Dispur, leading to more efficient decision-making and quicker implementation of projects.
Additionally, Sarma made several significant decisions concerning state administration during the inauguration ceremony. He also revealed a new tradition of hoisting the national flag on Independence Day in Guwahati and on Republic Day in Dibrugarh.
The establishment of the new secretariat is expected to enhance governance efficiency and facilitate faster project execution, benefiting the broader region.
