Assam Accelerates Rs 1,929-crore VB-GRAMG Rollout: Roadmap Reviewed
A Cabinet Committee of the Assam government met at Janata Bhawan to review preparations for rolling out the Centre’s VB‑GRAMG scheme, an ambitious programme aimed at accelerating rural development across the state and scheduled to begin from July 1. The high‑level meeting examined readiness across departments and sought to align resources and timelines for prompt implementation.
The session was chaired by Assam Minister Atul Bora, who holds the Panchayat & Rural Development, Excise, Implementation of Assam Accord, and Border Protection & Development portfolios, and was attended by senior cabinet colleagues and top state officials. Officials focused on coordination between ministries and the administrative steps needed before launch.
Detailed discussions covered departmental convergence, priority sectors to be addressed, institutional mechanisms and operational strategies to ensure the scheme is implemented on time and effectively. Participants reviewed how various departments would work together to deliver projects on the ground.
The VB‑GRAMG scheme is expected to strengthen rural infrastructure, improve connectivity, expand livelihood opportunities and boost socio‑economic development in Assam’s villages. The state is set to receive an interim allocation of Rs 1,929.70 crore from the Centre, while the Assam government will contribute roughly Rs 200 crore toward implementation.
Minister Atul Bora said the programme should provide strong momentum to rural development initiatives and improve the quality of life across villages in the state. The meeting also acknowledged the roles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in launching the nationwide initiative.
Senior officials from the departments of Panchayat & Rural Development, Finance, Agriculture, Education, Forest, Public Health Engineering, Revenue and Disaster Management attended and offered recommendations aimed at smooth and successful execution of the programme.
