Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said on Wednesday, June 17, that India has become a stronger and more secure nation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, pointing to advances in defence preparedness, indigenous manufacturing and national security over the past 12 years. Mein made the remarks in a post on social media platform X, summarising what he described as sustained efforts to modernise the armed forces and promote self-reliance in defence production.
Mein said the country’s defence ecosystem has undergone a transformational change, with notable progress across air, land and maritime domains. He credited modernisation programs and a push for domestic manufacturing with improving operational readiness and safeguarding national interests.
Highlighting specific gains, Mein said defence exports have increased 56-fold during the period and that the defence budget has more than tripled. He also noted that equipment made in India is now being exported to over 80 countries, a sign, he said, of growing indigenous capability.
Among the milestones Mein cited were the successful testing of the Agni-V missile with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) capability-a technology that allows a single missile to carry and guide multiple warheads to separate targets-and the commissioning of INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier.
Referring to recent security operations, Mein said Operation Sindoor had neutralised 100 terrorists and added that substantial progress had been made in tackling left-wing extremism. He framed these outcomes as part of a broader improvement in national security operations.
“Over the past 12 years, India has made remarkable strides in strengthening its defence capabilities and safeguarding national interests,” Mein wrote, emphasising self-reliance, technological innovation and a continued commitment to bolstering the country’s security.
