Official: Wokha Ward 8 Employees to Get Paid Holiday on June 16
Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, has issued a notification declaring June 16, 2026-the polling day for Ward No. 8 (Tsumang B)—a paid holiday for employees who are registered electors in the ward to enable them to vote. The order, issued on the direction of the Nagaland Home Department, covers voters employed within and outside the ward.
The notification applies to all employees enrolled as electors in Ward No. 8, including those who ordinarily reside or work outside the ward, and is intended to ensure they can exercise their franchise without loss of pay. In addition, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the day has been declared a paid holiday specifically for employees of banks and financial institutions in Nagaland who are registered electors in the ward.
Under Section 10 of the Nagaland Shops and Establishments Act, 1982, the notice also requires that all shops and commercial establishments in Ward No. 8 that are owned, managed or run by persons registered as electors in the ward remain closed during polling hours to allow those proprietors to vote.
The notification states that if a repoll is ordered, the day fixed by the State Election Commission for that repoll will likewise be observed as a public holiday for the affected electors. This measure aims to provide the same leave entitlement on any subsequent polling day designated by the commission.
However, the provisions do not apply where an elector’s absence from duty would cause danger or entail substantial loss in the employment in which they are engaged. Such essential staff are therefore exempted from the paid-holiday requirement.
The order is part of standard electoral arrangements to facilitate participation and to ensure that employees who are voters face no employment-related barriers to casting their ballots in Ward No. 8 (Tsumang B).
