Major Heroin Bust in Mizoram: 9 Arrested, 740g Seized Near Manipur
A joint operation by the Excise and Narcotics Department, Assam Rifles and the Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) in the early hours of Friday resulted in the seizure of a large cache of heroin and the arrest of nine suspected traffickers, the Excise Department said in a statement. The raid took place at New Vervek village in Aizawl district, close to the Manipur border, at around 2:30 am.
Officers recovered 740 grams of heroin, packed inside 61 soap cases, the statement said. Authorities also seized a newly purchased Mahindra Bolero camper that was allegedly being used to transport the contraband.
The nine accused, reportedly from several villages in Manipur’s Pherzawl district, have been booked under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. They were produced before the Special Court (NDPS Act) in Aizawl on the same day, according to the Excise Department.
The coordinated action by state enforcement, the Assam Rifles and a community anti-drug squad highlights intensified efforts to disrupt cross-border drug trafficking in the region, officials said in their statement.
