Mizoram has taken the lead in digitising enumeration forms during the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, completing 68.05% of the process among 16 states and three union territories, state election officials said on Friday. The state’s performance far outpaces Manipur, which recorded 27.11% digitisation, officials added.
Khawzawl district tops the list with 96.16% of enumeration forms digitised, followed by Champhai at 92.57% and Serchhip at 90.93%. The most populous Aizawl district has completed 51.95% of its digitisation work, with the figure reported as of 4 pm on Friday. Officials noted that four districts have cleared more than 90% of the task overall.
Enrolment form distribution across Mizoram has also neared completion: 99.90% of forms have been distributed statewide by 1,301 Block Level Officers (BLOs) assigned to the enumeration drive. Champhai, Serchhip and Hnahthial have finished distribution entirely, while Lunglei, Siaha and Khawzawl have reached 99.99% distribution, officials said. Mamit district, which borders Bangladesh and Tripura, was reported at 95.84%.
Officials said the rapid digitisation and near-complete form distribution aim to streamline the SIR process, improve accuracy of the voter list and ensure wider coverage ahead of finalisation. The state’s progress will be monitored as the revision advances.
Meanwhile, state and district media nodal officers from Mizoram, led by Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii, attended the Election Commission of India’s media and communication conference at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi. The conference was attended by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
