Shocking Incident: Rituparna Sengupta Heckled During Kolkata Protest – Unbelievable Anonymity!
Bengali actor Rituparna Sengupta faced hostility at a protest rally on September 3 that sought justice for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. According to reports by AajTak Bangla, Sengupta was pushed and verbally abused by a group of unidentified individuals during the rally. As per PTI, the incident occurred in Shyambazar, Kolkata, where protesters shouted “Go Back” as Sengupta attempted to address the crowd in support of the victim.
The situation escalated, leading the police and her bodyguard to escort Sengupta to her vehicle for safety. The actor expressed her bewilderment and fear, describing the aggression and the use of offensive language towards her. She questioned why such resistance was shown against her and highlighted the disruptive elements in the protest that were causing the movement to lose focus.
In a video message earlier, Sengupta had shown her solidarity with the movement and condemned the recurrence of violent incidents, calling for measures to prevent such violence in the future. This incident occurred amid the ‘Reclaim The Night’ campaign in West Bengal, which demands justice for the doctor who was raped and murdered at a state-run hospital in Kolkata.
Additionally, there were reports of violence in Mathabhanga town during a protest led by the West Bengal Democratic Writers’ and Artistes’ Association and the People’s Theatre Association. Pradyut Saha, a CPI(M) branch secretary, and Mathabhanga municipality employee was allegedly assaulted by members of the TMC during the demonstration.
The incidents underscore the ongoing tensions and the challenges faced by those advocating for justice in such sensitive cases. (With inputs from agencies)
