BJP Sikkim Urgently Probes LPG Shortage at Rangpo Indane Plant
A high-level BJP Sikkim delegation, acting under the direction of State president D. R. Thapa, visited the Indane bottling plant of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Majitar, Rangpo on Thursday, June 11, 2026, to press for immediate remedies to an acute shortage of LPG cylinders affecting households across Sikkim, the party said in a media statement.
The team was led by State spokesperson Sangay Gyatso Bhutia and included State secretary Sangay Pulger and BJYM State president Lalit Pokhrel. The delegation held a detailed meeting with the plant’s assistant manager, Ajay Kumar, to identify bottlenecks in the supply chain and seek prompt solutions.
Plant management told the delegation that the Majitar facility supplies all 22 distributors operating in Sikkim, four of which are dedicated to servicing defence units stationed in the border state. The BJP said its representatives also brought feedback gathered a day earlier from the State Trading Corporation of Sikkim (STCS).
During the meeting the delegation questioned recent drops in supply volumes from the bottling plant and raised concerns about widespread public distress and confusion around the ongoing DAC (Delivery Authentication Code) and KYC (Know Your Customer) verification processes, the party statement said. DAC is the code used to authenticate deliveries; KYC refers to customer identity verification.
In response, the plant manager reportedly gave firm assurances to allay public anxiety. Management committed there would be no shortages of LPG cylinders from the Majitar plant and said it would run the facility for extra hours if market demand required it to clear any backlog, the State BJP added.
The plant also assured the delegation that it maintains an adequate backup supply to handle unforeseen emergencies or transit blockages, according to the BJP’s media statement.
