Arunachal-Assam Border Bust: Three Arrested, Heroin Seized
Banderdewa Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin during a naka (road checkpoint) operation at the Banderdewa Check Gate on June 3, 2026, officials said. The operation followed specific intelligence about narcotics being transported from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh, prompting a targeted interception at a key entry point to the state.
A police team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer‑in‑Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, together with Sub‑Inspectors B. Pegu and T. Hinda, Lady Constable Rita Devi and CRPF personnel, laid a trap and stopped a Maruti Alto K10 bearing registration AR‑01V‑3694. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered 30 vials containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 38.70 grams, inclusive of the vial weight.
The three occupants of the car were taken into custody at the scene and subsequently arrested in connection with the seizure. They have been identified as Khyoda Mama of Jully‑Jollang, Itanagar; Khoda Tadi of F&G Sector, Itanagar; and Guriya Rai of Chimpu in Papum Pare district. Authorities described them as alleged offenders while the investigation proceeds.
Banderdewa Police registered Case No. 30/2026 under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigators said further inquiries are under way to determine the source of the contraband and to identify any larger trafficking network involved.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Dr. Nyelam Nega, Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, and is part of an ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the Itanagar Capital Region. Officials added that surveillance and enforcement at major entry points into Arunachal Pradesh will be intensified to curb the movement of narcotics.
