The resolution was introduced by the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and won passage after a closely contested vote. “This is a loud and unambiguous message to Donald Trump on behalf of the American people: it’s time to end his deeply unpopular and illegal war of choice in Iran,” House Democrats on the committee posted on X.
The vote marked the first time the Republican-controlled House approved a measure seeking to force the administration to wind down military operations against Tehran since the conflict began. A similar resolution cleared a key procedural hurdle in the Senate at the end of May, and senators could move toward final adoption as early as this week.
The Trump administration maintains that the war is over, despite ongoing exchanges of fire between US and Iranian forces and limited signs of progress in peace negotiations. The outcome ultimately depends on the Senate’s action and whether the president will sign or veto the measure.
