Padma Awards 2026: 131 Winners Revealed — Dharmendra to Rohit Sharma
The Government of India on Monday, May 25, 2026, announced and approved 131 Padma Awards for 2026, honouring individuals across art, literature, science, medicine, sports, public affairs, trade, social work and other fields for distinguished service to the nation. The awards-among India’s highest civilian recognitions-were conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Several awards this year were given posthumously to recognise lifetimes of contribution.
This year’s batch comprises five Padma Vibhushan recipients, 13 Padma Bhushan awardees and 113 Padma Shri honourees. The Padma Vibhushan recognises exceptional and distinguished service of the highest order; the Padma Bhushan recognises distinguished service of a high order; and the Padma Shri honours notable contributions in various fields. The list reflects work across traditional and contemporary disciplines, from cinema and classical arts to medicine, science and public affairs.
Among the most high-profile names on the 2026 list are the late Bollywood legend Dharmendra (Padma Vibhushan, posthumous), Malayalam superstar Mammootty (Padma Bhushan), playback singer Alka Yagnik (Padma Bhushan), India cricket captain Rohit Sharma (Padma Shri) and industrialist Uday Kotak (Padma Bhushan). International awardees and contributors from Indian diasporas also feature on the list, underscoring the awards’ global reach.
The five Padma Vibhushan awardees named in the announcement include Shri Dharmendra Singh Deol (posthumous) for art, Shri K T Thomas for public affairs, Ms N. Rajam for art, Shri P. Narayanan for literature and education, and Shri V. S. Achuthanandhan (posthumous) for public affairs. These represent careers spanning performance, jurisprudence, scholarship and public service.
Notable Padma Bhushan recipients include Ms Alka Yagnik (art), Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari (public affairs), Shri Kallipatti Ramasamy Palaniswamy (medicine), Shri Mammootty (art), Dr Nori Dattatreyudu (medicine) and Shri Uday Kotak (trade and industry), among others. The Padma Bhushan list again highlights achievers from arts, health sciences, public life and business leadership.
The Padma Shri list, the largest category this year, includes a wide cross-section of professionals and cultural practitioners-scientists, engineers, doctors, athletes, performers, social workers and grassroots change-makers. Notable names cited in the announcement include Rohit Sharma (sports), Prosenjit Chatterjee (art), Harmanpreet Kaur (sports) and Savita Punia (sports), alongside academics, doctors and several artists and community workers from across India and abroad.
The Padma Awards 2026 list, first published May 25, 2026, reflects the government’s annual effort to recognise diverse contributions to Indian society and culture. Recipients will be invited to receive their decorations at the official investiture ceremonies, while families and institutions of the posthumous awardees will be formally presented with the honours.
