Major Dhubri Narcotics Bust: Police Arrest Two, Contraband Seized
The Dhubri District Crime Unit carried out an undercover raid on the night of Sunday, May 24, 2026, at a commercial establishment on IG Road, arresting two men and seizing contraband tablets, several bottles of narcotic cough syrup and cash suspected to be proceeds of illegal drug sales. Police described the operation as the result of targeted intelligence about drug transactions at the shop.
Officers from the Crime Unit conducted the operation in plain clothes, police sources said. They monitored the premises for some time, posing as regular customers, before moving in to detain the suspects and search the location.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Dr. Anup Jyoti Borah reached the scene and personally supervised the search-and-seizure operation, officials added.
The owner of the shop, identified as 50-year-old Shahajada Sheikh of IG Road, was arrested at the scene. A search of Sheikh reportedly produced a substantial quantity of contraband tablets, several bottles of narcotic cough syrup and cash believed to be linked to the alleged drug trade.
Police also arrested 41-year-old shopkeeper Afzalur Hussain, another IG Road resident. During a search of the shop premises, officers recovered three more bottles of the same prohibited narcotic cough syrup, which were said to have been concealed inside the store.
Both men were taken into custody on the spot and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the alleged distribution network and to identify suppliers responsible for trafficking the contraband into the district.
