Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, May 24, 2026, inspected the ongoing construction of the new Assam Bhawan on Sardar Patel Marg in New Delhi, reviewing progress and instructing officials to finish the project on schedule without compromising on quality. The visit aimed to assess construction status and ensure the facility meets planned standards for visitors from the state and for Assam’s official presence in the national capital.
During the inspection, Sarma reviewed various aspects of the development and spoke with project officials who briefed him on work completed so far and steps being taken to speed up progress while complying with prescribed norms. Resident Commissioner Kavita Padmanabhan was present, according to an official statement.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need for high-quality infrastructure and proper execution of all planned facilities. The Chief Minister’s Office posted on X that he had instructed authorities to “complete it in time and as per the quality standards.”
The new Assam Bhawan will include three basements, a ground floor and six upper floors. Officials say the building is intended to improve accommodation and administrative support for people from Assam visiting New Delhi, and to strengthen the state’s institutional presence in the capital.
In a separate engagement on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Sarma met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at her official residence to discuss Assam’s development roadmap. He expressed gratitude to the Union government for its support over the past five years and highlighted the Centre’s role in accelerating key projects in the state.
Authorities said continued oversight will focus on maintaining construction standards and timely completion so the Bhawan can serve its intended public and administrative functions as planned.
