Bongaigaon GRP Seizes Fake Currency; Barpeta Police Bust Fake Gold Racket
In a significant operation, the Bongaigaon GRP seized counterfeit currency notes worth approximately Rs 1.78 lakh in the denomination of 500. The raid was conducted based on a tip-off, leading to the detention of Sabir, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. The police investigation is ongoing.
In another crackdown against illegal activities, Barpeta district police arrested three individuals involved in the counterfeit gold trade. Acting on specific intelligence, the Howly Police raided the residence of Phulki Para Abdur Rahim. The operation, led by Howly Police Station in-charge Rajiv Neog, resulted in the arrest of Rashidul Haque from Sonapur Reserve village in Lakhimpur, and Abdur Rahim and Hussain Ali from Phulki Para village in Howly.
The suspects were caught attempting to sell a counterfeit gold boat, intending to defraud buyers. Both operations highlight the ongoing efforts of Assam police to combat and curb counterfeit trades in the region.
