Outrage Unleashed: State BJP Denounces ‘False’ JJM Report to Centre
The state BJP has accused the Meghalaya government of running a scam in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project. According to state BJP vice president Bernard N Marak, the government submitted a nonfactual report to the Centre that misleadingly claims 100% completion of functional tap water connections in Meghalaya’s villages. However, Marak reveals that an inspection he conducted shows many villages are still without pipe connections, tanks, or drinkable water.
Marak’s allegations point to a significant discrepancy between the official reports and the actual ground situation. He contends that the state government secured an award based on manipulated data and statistics, falsely showing complete implementation of the JJM. “The report submitted by the state government is not factual, as ground realities speak otherwise,” Marak said.
In the Garo Hills, villagers have complained about the absence of water connections, contradicting the online data showing full completion. Marak emphasized that the situation in Khasi Hills remains unclear but vowed to investigate further. He also raised concerns about reports falsely certifying water quality in villages without functional water connections. “How can it be done when the connection is not even there?” he questioned.
Marak mentioned his meeting with PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak, who insisted that efforts are ongoing to complete the project by December, despite the discrepancies in official reports. The state BJP vice president concluded by stating that they plan to conduct further investigations and will submit a detailed report to both the Centre and the state.
The BJP’s claims spotlight potential issues in the JJM’s execution in Meghalaya, contrasting the state government’s optimistic reports with troubling ground realities. The situation calls for a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and accountability in the project’s implementation.
