Central Bank Targets Rs 250 Crore Loans to Boost Sikkim Growth by Sept
GANGTOK, May 15, 2026 — The Central Bank of India has set a target to disburse about Rs 250 crore in loans across Sikkim by September 2026 under the Centre’s flagship MSME-focused initiative, bank officials said on Friday, May 15. The goal was announced during an MSME loan outreach programme held in Gangtok.
Randhir Kumar Singh, Jalpaiguri regional manager of the Central Bank of India, said the bank has already disbursed Rs 55 crore in Sikkim under the Unnati Scheme and approved loan proposals worth Rs 23 crore during the outreach.
Singh added that the Unnati Scheme, originally valid until March 2026, has been extended by the Sikkim government through September 2026 to ease access for customers and entrepreneurs. He said the extension will make it simpler for local businesspersons to apply for and receive credit.
The bank also intends to increase investment in Sikkim’s hotel and hospitality sector. Singh said loans will be offered through a simplified process tailored to project requirements, with lower collateral demands as part of a business-friendly policy to encourage entrepreneurship and MSME growth in the state.
Entrepreneurs from the hotel and hospitality sector within the bank’s Jalpaiguri region were briefed on the range of MSME loan products available, including eligibility criteria, concessions and application procedures. Bank officials from various Sikkim districts attended the programme and described branch-level efforts to raise awareness of these schemes.
The outreach included interactive sessions in which customers raised suggestions and concerns and officials responded to queries, underlining the bank’s push to expand credit flow and support small businesses in Sikkim’s recovering economy.
