Rahul Gandhi Poised for Future PM Role, Says Sam Pitroda
Chicago, IL — Sam Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress and a close associate of the Gandhi family, asserts that Rahul Gandhi possesses all necessary qualities to become India’s future prime minister. Claiming Rahul is more intellectual and strategic compared to his late father, former PM Rajiv Gandhi, Pitroda shared his insights during an interview with PTI ahead of Rahul’s upcoming U.S. visit.
“Rahul and Rajiv are custodians of the idea of India,” Pitroda stated, while highlighting key differences between the two. He noted Rahul’s intellectual depth and strategic thinking contrasts with Rajiv’s more action-oriented approach. Despite these differences, both share concerns for the people and a vision of a better India. “They don’t have big personal needs,” said Pitroda, emphasizing their simplicity and dedication.
Pitroda underscored that Rahul’s life has been shaped by personal tragedies, including the assassinations of his grandmother and father. These events have given him a unique perspective and resilience.
When asked about Rahul’s prime ministerial potential, Pitroda responded emphatically, “Absolutely, no question about it,” while noting that the final decision lies with the public. Pitroda praised Rahul as a well-educated, decent human being who embodies democratic values championed by the Congress party.
Rahul Gandhi’s U.S. visit, scheduled for September 8-10, will include a range of interactions in Washington D.C. and Dallas. Although not in an official capacity, he will engage with key figures on Capitol Hill, the media at the National Press Club, and think tanks at Georgetown University.
Pitroda emphasized that this visit offers Rahul a chance to connect with various audiences on an individual level, further cementing his role as a significant leader on the global stage.
