Meghalaya Christian Body Condemns Manipur Violence — Demands Peace Now
Shillong: The Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) has strongly condemned recent incidents of violence in Manipur, including reported killings and kidnappings, saying the attacks targeted innocent civilians and peace advocates. The forum issued the rebuke in a press statement from its secretary, Reverend Edwin H. Kharkongor, who spoke from Shillong.
In the statement, the KJCLF expressed solidarity with Christian forums, churches, conferences and councils affected by the unrest and denounced the incidents as “heinous crimes.” The forum urged attention to the human cost of the violence and underscored the need to protect those working for peace, as well as ordinary residents caught up in the conflict.
By publicly condemning the attacks, the KJCLF aligned itself with other faith-based bodies calling for an end to bloodshed and for measures that safeguard civilians and peacebuilders. The statement reflects growing concern among community leaders in the Northeast over continuing violence and its impact on communal harmony.
