Rabindra Jayanti Celebrated at Montessori Teacher Training College
Agartala, 9 May 2026 — The Montessori Teacher Training College marked the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore with a tribute programme at 1 p.m. on Saturday, featuring a lively cultural segment that showcased dance, music and recitation by a large number of trainees. The event aimed to celebrate Tagore’s artistic and educational legacy and to reinforce his ideas among future educators.
The cultural programme formed the core of the afternoon, with trainees performing a variety of Rabindra pieces that blended classical and folk elements. Audiences responded to the energetic choreography and vocal performances, which highlighted the students’ training and the college’s emphasis on holistic pedagogy.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Pradip Acharya, Regional Director of the college, who attended as chief guest. Dr. Ashis Kumar Vaidya, Joint Director, served as the special guest of honour and delivered the keynote address. Dr. Sushanta Sarkar, Assistant Professor at Bhavan’s B.Ed College, was present as a distinguished guest.
The proceedings were presided over by social worker Subrata Chakraborty (Swapan Chakraborty). Eminent singer Sheela Dasgupta directed the cultural programme, lending artistic depth and cohesion to the performances.
Organisers said the event reflected Tagore’s enduring philosophy and creativity, inspiring both faculty and trainees to uphold his vision of education, culture and artistic expression.
