Sikkim Govt Takes State Demands to PM in Delhi — CM’s Urgent Appeal

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang‑Golay said on Monday, May 4, 2026, that the entire Sikkim government, accompanied by the state’s two Members of Parliament, will travel to New Delhi to formally present a memorandum of about 20 demands to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The move follows the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Gangtok for the concluding ceremony of Sikkim’s Statehood Golden Jubilee, when officials chose not to raise the issues at the event itself.

Golay told reporters in Gangtok that while the memorandum — which includes demands such as reservation for Limboo‑Tamang seats and tribal status for communities left out of previous lists — was ready, he felt “the platform was not appropriate” to submit it during the Prime Minister’s visit. Instead, the state requested a formal appointment with the Prime Minister, which Golay said has been accepted.

He added that once dates are finalised, the Cabinet, MLAs and both MPs will proceed to Delhi to hand over the memorandum and press for decisions on the listed demands. Golay also described the Gangtok roadshow and the Golden Jubilee closing programme at Paljor Stadium, attended by the Prime Minister, as historic events that were well received by the central leadership.

The delegation’s Delhi visit is expected to focus on securing clear responses on the state’s priority items and ensuring follow‑up on commitments arising from the jubilee events.
