Sex Racket Busted in Roing, Arunachal: Four Assamese Women Rescued
Police in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh carried out a late-night raid at Lego Resort in Meka, Roing, on Sunday, rescuing four women from Assam and detaining multiple people suspected to be involved in an alleged prostitution network. The operation, led by the Officer-in-Charge of the local police, was conducted after specific intelligence and previous complaints about illegal activity at the resort.
During the surprise check, police say they found the four women, reportedly brought from the Tinsukia area of Assam, and brought them to Roing Police Station. The resort manager, the owner and several customers were also taken into custody for questioning; officials said some individuals were allegedly caught in the act during the raid.
Preliminary inquiries by police suggest the operation may have involved trafficking women from Assam to serve a largely local clientele. Authorities said they had been receiving inputs for several days, including confidential complaints and concerns raised in public forums, prompting the targeted action.
Officials expressed concern that such networks can lead to exploitation of vulnerable people, potentially draw local youth into criminal activity and pose public health risks. No formal statements on charges or the condition of the rescued women were released immediately.
A case has been registered at Roing Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA). Further investigation is underway as police continue to question those detained and trace the alleged network’s extent.
