Unite Against Division: How BJP’s Agenda Threatens India’s Unity | Powerful Insights
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saayoni Ghosh has once again captured attention with her powerful message of pluralism delivered during a rally in Bhabanipur, West Bengal. The Lok Sabha member recited religious chants from various faiths while emphasizing the area’s rich diversity. In a viral video, Ghosh described Bhabanipur, where TMC chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting the assembly elections, as a “mini India,” a vibrant tapestry of different communities and religions coexisting.
In her speech, Ghosh accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to fracture these harmonious spaces. “Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, we’ll live among ourselves as brothers,” she shared on social media alongside the footage. Speaking in a blend of Bangla and Hindi, and singing in Punjabi, she invoked the spirit of unity through scripture. “From one home, you can hear the chant, ‘Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Shakti Rupen Sansthita, Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah…’,” she recited, referring to a revered Sanskrit mantra dedicated to the Mother Goddess, commonly chanted during Durga Puja and Navratri in Bengal.
Ghosh continued, “From another lane, you hear, ‘La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah, Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim,’” a Muslim prayer that honors the oneness of God. She further blended the chants with Hindu tradition, singing, “Jai Hanuman gyan gun sagar, Jai Kapis tihun lok ujagar…,” from the well-known ‘Hanuman Chalisa’. Moreover, she recognized Sikhism with the lines, “Ik Onkar, Satnam, Karta Purakh, Nirbhau, Nirvair, Akal Moorat, Ajooni, Saibhang, Gur Prasad…,” identifying the Mool Mantar, a fundamental prayer in Sikhism.
The rally drew enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, reflecting their shared commitment to diversity. Ghosh asserted, “All of this exists together; and yet the BJP raises its hand to divide this space.” This rally is particularly significant as Bhabanipur is poised for a direct showdown once again between CM Banerjee and BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, who previously defeated her in Nandigram.
In the past, Ghosh faced controversy for singing a folk song that referenced “Kaaba in the heart, Medina in the eyes,” leading to backlash from BJP leaders. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath commented that while Ghosh expressed her connection to these Islamic symbols, they held their own religious icons in reverence.
As a new face in Parliament representing Jadavpur, Ghosh has not held back in voicing her concerns regarding the state of democracy in the legislative body. Earlier this year, she argued that “hardly any democracy is left” in Parliament, claiming that the opposition’s voices are continuously muted. During a heated debate seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla, she expressed that the Parliament, meant for policymaking, had devolved into a mere platform for advertisement.
Saayoni Ghosh’s passionate advocacy for unity amidst diversity continues to resonate, emphasizing the need for solidarity in a politically fragmented landscape. Her commitment to pluralism and democracy positions her as a prominent voice within Indian politics, particularly in the lead-up to the crucial assembly elections.
