Shocking: Naga Women Burn Bike, Seize Drugs During UNC Shutdown
Imphal: Naga women protesters set a two-wheeler ablaze on the final day of a three-day bandh called by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) after its two occupants were found with contraband and cash. The incident occurred near the Kanglatongbi bridge on NH-102, between Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts, at about 2:30 pm on Thursday.
Protesters who had blocked the road stopped a motorcycle carrying two people. After a search, the protesters recovered a plastic packet of ganja, Rs 30,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the riders. An angry crowd then set the two-wheeler on fire before handing the two individuals and the seized items over to police custody.
Authorities are withholding the identities of the two people handed to the police, according to reports. There was no immediate comment in the report about any formal charges or further investigative steps announced by law enforcement.
The bandh was staged to protest the killing of two Naga civilians at TM Kasom along NH-202 (Imphal–Ukhrul road) on April 18. In response to appeals by Naga organizations, the community also observed a candlelight vigil on April 23 at 6:30 pm across all Naga district headquarters and in Imphal.
