A humanoid robot developed by Honor has garnered global acclaim after clinching victory in a half-marathon race for robots held in Beijing, achieving a time that surpasses the current human world record for the distance. The champion robot completed the challenging 21-kilometer (13-mile) course in an impressive 50 minutes and 26 seconds, a time notably swifter than the existing human half-marathon world record set by Jacob Kiplimo, who finished in about 57 minutes during a Lisbon road race in March 2026. Remarkably, another robot from Honor, operated remotely, crossed the finish line even faster at 48 minutes and 19 seconds. However, under the competition’s unique scoring system, which favored autonomous performance, the fully autonomous robot was awarded first place, highlighting the emphasis on self-sufficiency in robotic movement.

This year’s half-marathon underscored substantial developments when compared to the inaugural 2025 event, where the winning robot took 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds to complete the same course. The dramatic improvement in speed and operational efficiency speaks volumes about the swift evolution of robotic technology.

Autonomy played a significant role in this year’s race, with roughly 40% of the participating robots navigating the course independently, and the remainder relying on remote human control. The runner-ups, also developed by Honor and functioning autonomously, finished with times of 51 minutes and 53 minutes, respectively.
