Iran is reportedly preparing to execute Bita Hemmati, a female protester convicted for her involvement in recent anti-government demonstrations, according to the opposition group National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). A fifth individual, Amir Hemmati, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison, facing charges such as “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”
Reports indicate that the group arrested in Tehran also faced property confiscation, as mentioned by both the NCRI and the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency. This further illustrates the Iranian government’s aggressive stance in silencing dissent.
The civil unrest in Iran ignited with local strikes by shopkeepers and merchants in late December, quickly escalating to widespread protests in Tehran and other cities.
