Tragic Loss: Twin Brothers Drown in Krishnai River on Goru Bihu
Two minor twin brothers drowned in the Krishnai River in Goalpara on April 14, police and local sources said, casting a pall over Goru Bihu celebrations. The boys have been identified as Dipankar Nath and Debashish Nath, both Class 9 students and residents of Tengabari village.
The tragedy occurred at Bhojmala in Krishnai when the twins went to bathe cattle as part of the customary Goru Bihu rituals. Locals reported that the boys went missing while in the river, prompting immediate alarm in the area.
A search operation was launched without delay, and a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the site to carry out rescue efforts. After an intensive search of the river, the bodies of both brothers were recovered.
The deaths have sent shockwaves through the local community, turning a day usually marked by cultural celebration into one of profound grief for the family and neighbours. The incident highlights the risks associated with river-based rituals during festivals and has left residents mourning the loss of two schoolchildren.
