IRGC Issues Stark Warning: ‘Severe Force’ Ahead of Trump’s Tense Strait of Hormuz Blockade Move

Iran’s paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a stark warning regarding foreign military vessels approaching the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that any such incursion would be treated as a “violation of the ceasefire” and met with “severe force.” This declaration, reported by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, underscores the IRGC’s operational supremacy in the strategically vital waterway. The organization insists that all maritime traffic is under the full control of Iran’s armed forces.

Amidst rising tensions, Iran’s naval command maintains that the Strait remains open to civilian shipping. “Contrary to the false claims of certain enemy officials, the Strait of Hormuz is fully operational for non-military vessels under smart control and management,” the IRGC stated. This emphasis on oversight reflects Iran’s intention to assert dominant control, even as international tensions continue to escalate.

The warning from the IRGC comes on the heels of a recent announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who declared a robust naval blockade of the Strait following the breakdown of nuclear negotiations with Iran. “Effective immediately, the United States Navy will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all ships trying to enter or leave,” Trump stated, adding a pointed military threat: “Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!” He characterized Iran’s actions as “WORLD EXTORTION,” accusing Tehran of attempting to intimidate global shipping and impose tolls on maritime traffic.

This move to block maritime access was triggered by Iran’s purported failure to uphold a ceasefire condition that required opening the strait. Trump stressed, “Iran promised to open the Strait of Hormuz… they better begin the process of getting this INTERNATIONAL WATERWAY OPEN AND FAST!” The U.S. has also accused Iran of laying naval mines and creating a hazardous environment that deters commercial shipping.

In response, the U.S. Navy has initiated operations in the strait to ensure the safe passage of tankers, employing measures to neutralize potential threats from mines and drones. However, the IRGC contested these assertions, illustrating the conflicting narratives that have emerged from both sides. Earlier, the IRGC cautioned adversaries that they risk becoming ensnared in a “deadly vortex” should they challenge Iran’s authority over the waterway.

The escalating situation follows the collapse of high-stakes negotiations in Islamabad, which lasted nearly 20 hours. Trump indicated that while “most points were agreed to,” discussions ultimately faltered over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, reiterating his firm stance: “I have always said… IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!” U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who led the delegation, conveyed that Washington had presented its “final and best offer,” leaving the path forward uncertain.

As the geopolitical landscape becomes increasingly fraught with tension, the implications for international shipping, military operations, and regional stability are significant. Both Iran and the United States appear poised for a showdown over this crucial maritime corridor, further complicating an already intricate web of international relations.
