Urgent Call to Action: Restore One-Way Traffic on Service Roads for Safer Commutes!
Despite repeated complaints from motorists, one-way traffic restrictions along several service roads on the National Highway (NH) stretches in Kozhikode city have yet to be reinstated, even after major renovations were completed. This ongoing arrangement, initially described by police as a temporary measure related to highway widening, has led to significant congestion, especially during peak hours.
The area near Thondayad Junction has been particularly hard-hit, with residents expressing frustration over the chaos caused by vehicles entering the narrow service roads from multiple directions. T.K. Nishad, a local resident near the Government Medical College, pointed out that the influx of heavy vehicles, such as trucks coming from opposing lanes, has severely disrupted the flow of smaller vehicles, exacerbating the traffic snarl.
Originally, the service roads were meant to facilitate smoother traffic around the recently completed six-laning works. However, the failure to implement one-way restrictions as promised has resulted in further complications. Residents have noted that the numerous entry and exit points beneath the Thondayad flyover are contributing to the gridlock, as they struggle to navigate through the disorganized traffic patterns.
Local motorists are urging authorities to reconsider the existing traffic arrangements, highlighting that the lack of regulation not only increases commute times but also poses safety risks on the roads. The current scenario has sparked further discussions on the need for efficient traffic management as Kozhikode prepares for increased vehicular activity with the upcoming festival season.
As complaints mount, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will take immediate action to restore the one-way traffic system that was initially meant to ease congestion. For now, drivers and residents alike continue to grapple with the implications of the ongoing traffic issues, hoping for a swift return to effective management on these crucial service roads.
