Congress MP Criticizes Central Government Over Manipur Violence

Congress MP Bimol Akoijam has severely criticized the central government, pointing to recent incidents of violence in Manipur, including drone attacks on residential areas, as a clear failure of law enforcement agencies. He raised questions regarding accountability for the deaths and destruction caused, urging the government to take responsibility for the situation.

Akoijam emphasized that the state government has claimed its actions during the ongoing 15-month crisis were conducted with the approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He accused the government of having "blood on their hands" and warned that the struggle in Manipur is far from over.

In response to the recent violence, the Manipur government condemned the armed attack by suspected Kuki militants on Koutruk village in Imphal West on September 1. This assault, involving drones, bombs, and advanced weaponry, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a woman, and left several others injured.

The state government expressed deep concern over this act of terror, especially as significant efforts are being made to restore peace and normalcy in the region. Officials described the attack on defenseless villagers as a direct attempt to undermine ongoing peace initiatives, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the challenges ahead in restoring stability to the area.
