Deadly Bomb Attack Triggers Indefinite Curfew in 4 Manipur Districts
An indefinite curfew was imposed from April 7, 2026, in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Kakching districts after a bomb attack in Bishnupur killed two children, officials said. District Magistrates in the four districts issued the curfew orders on Tuesday, and the state Home Department separately ordered an internet suspension for three days in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur.
The curfew orders prohibit movement outside homes “with effect from April 7 until further orders,” the notices said, allowing exceptions only for essential services, emergency duties and law enforcement agencies. The orders state they do not apply to government agencies engaged in maintenance of law and order, and to essential emergency and health services.
According to official reports, the internet suspension announced by the Home Department is meant to remain in force for the next three days across the five named districts. Authorities did not specify precisely when connectivity would be restored beyond that period.
The security measures follow a bombing in Moirang Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district shortly after 1 a.m., when suspected militants allegedly hurled an explosive at a house. Reports said the blast killed a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl and caused wider alarm in the area.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh described the attack as a “barbaric act” and said those responsible would be identified and dealt with strictly as per law. Law enforcement agencies have been deployed to secure affected areas and to investigate the incident, officials added.
The curfew and internet restrictions aim to prevent further violence and protect civilians while authorities carry out investigations and emergency response. Residents in the affected districts have been asked to stay indoors and cooperate with security and health personnel.
