Manipur Dominates Sub-Junior National Sepak Takraw: 5 Golds
Manipur secured an impressive haul of five gold medals and one bronze at the 28th Sub‑Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship, held at the Mega Sports Complex in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from March 23 to 27, 2026. The state’s young players dominated across team and multi‑player events, underscoring Manipur’s strength in the sport at the national level.
In team competitions, both the boys’ and girls’ sides clinched gold medals. In the regu event, the boys took bronze while the girls won gold. The quad event saw victories for both boys’ and girls’ teams, contributing to the overall tally that brought pride to the state.
The Manipur government, led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, held a reception on Friday at the Chief Minister’s bungalow to honour the athletes. In a social media post congratulating the squad, the Chief Minister wrote: “Heartiest congratulations to the Manipur Sub‑Junior Sepak Takraw Team (Boys & Girls) on their remarkable achievement… Their technical excellence and physical fitness stand as a testament to Manipur’s growing sporting prowess.”
At the reception, Mr. Yumnam said the results reflected the players’ talent, discipline and determination and signalled the need for stronger institutional support. “It is my considered view that our existing sports policy must be better aligned with the aspirations and capabilities of our emerging athletes. I have, therefore, decided to review the policy framework to ensure it fully supports and nurtures their potential,” he said, extending his appreciation and best wishes for the team’s future endeavours.
