Google and the Tamil Nadu Government have formalized a collaboration to boost technological advancement and foster innovation through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement focuses on accelerating AI start-up enablement, skill development, and bolstering the industrial ecosystem, including MSMEs, to create scalable AI solutions. The MoU was exchanged at Google’s Mountain View office with key figures such as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and Google executives Amit Zavery and Nanda Ramachandran in attendance.
As part of the MoU, Google will work with Guidance, Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion agency, to establish a robust AI ecosystem. The collaboration also includes initiatives to empower individuals, businesses, and government entities through access to advanced AI technologies.
Industries Minister TRB Rajaa highlighted the state’s commitment to becoming an AI and advanced electronics manufacturing hub, referencing the recent Made in India Pixel 8 phone. The initiative will fall under the Tamil Nadu AI Labs and aims to position Tamil Nadu as a leader in AI-enabled growth.
Chief Minister Stalin’s ambitious ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ programme, India’s largest upskilling initiative, aims to prepare 2 million youths with AI skills and enhance innovation in key sectors such as startups, mobility, and healthcare. This program will explore various AI initiatives with Google, focusing on equipping the state’s youth for future challenges.
Amit Zavery of Google Cloud expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, citing a shared commitment to inclusive growth and technological progress through AI. The collaboration includes manufacturing Pixel 8 phones in Tamil Nadu and enhancing digital education to create a future-ready workforce.
Google will moreover support Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem through its Google for Startups program, offering mentorship, networking, and resources. The program will provide cloud credits, technical training, and business support to eligible startups.
The partnership extends to empowering MSMEs by leveraging Google Cloud’s AI capabilities to automate processes, enhance decision-making, and promote innovation through technology. Google’s approach will adhere to their AI principles, ensuring the ethical development and impactful deployment of AI technologies for societal benefits.
