Assam’s Uma Chetry Returns to India T20 Squad vs South Africa
Assam wicketkeeper Uma Chetry has been recalled to the India women’s national cricket team for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, set to begin on April 17, 2026, in Durban, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on March 24, 2026. The series will run across Durban, Johannesburg and Benoni, with the final game scheduled for April 27, 2026.
Chetry, who was omitted from India’s recent T20I tour of Australia, returns to a squad led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The selection also features established batters Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, providing a blend of experience and youth in the middle order and opening slots.
The recall strengthens India’s wicketkeeping options ahead of the South Africa tour, offering the team additional depth behind the stumps. For Assam cricket, Chetry’s comeback represents another proud milestone as she continues to wear state colours on the international stage.
With three venues and five matches over ten days, India will look to consolidate their T20I combinations and assess bench strength, while Chetry aims to make a mark and cement her place in the national side.
