DMK Unveils Powerful Candidate List for Puducherry Elections: 13 Seats at Stake, VCK Spotlighted!
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has finalized candidates for 13 of its 14 seats in the upcoming Puducherry Assembly elections, scheduled for April 9. This decision comes as part of the INDIA bloc alliance. Party convenor and Leader of the Opposition R. Siva is set to seek re-election from the Villianur constituency.
As a crucial element of its seat-sharing strategy, the DMK has allocated the Ozhukarai seat to its ally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). However, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan recently announced that his party intends to contest the elections independently, planning to field candidates in three different districts.
Among the sitting MLAs, several are aiming to retain their positions. R. Senthil Kumar will vie for the Bahour seat, while L. Sambath is contesting in Mudaliarpet. V. Annibal Kennedy will represent Uppalam, AHM Nazeem aims to keep the Karaikal South seat, and M. Nagathiyarajan is set to contest from the Neravy TR Pattinam segment, also located in Karaikal.
Additionally, P. Angalane, an Independent legislator who recently joined the DMK, will seek re-election from the Thirubhuvanai SC constituency. Notably, Vignesh Kannan, the son of the late veteran politician P. Kannan, has been nominated for the Raj Bhavan seat.
The DMK is also challenging the incumbent Chief Minister and AINRC leader N. Rangasamy by fielding S.S. Rangan against him in Mangalam. Other candidates include S. Gopal in Orleanpet, V. Karthikeyan in Nellithope, A. Senthil in Kalapet, and P. Vadivel in Kadirgamam.
As the political landscape in Puducherry heats up, the DMK’s strategic moves signal its intent to solidify its presence while navigating alliances and rivalries. This election will be crucial not just for the party but also for shaping the future governance of Puducherry.
